Beautiful Studio apartment detailed throughout with Talavera tile and rich colors. Off-street parking opens into a locked courtyard with private staircase access to the apartment. This second-floor apartment is amazingly private. It has a comfy queen bed, kitchen, and dining and sitting areas with TV/DVD for movies and music. Perfect for a romantic getaway for two, or can accommodate a family of two adults and two children, with floor mattresses for the kids.
The Pelican includes many amenities. The bath has a walk-in shower and is tastefully decorated with Talavera tile, and all the soaps, shampoo, lotions, and plush white towels you need. There's a closet for stashing your gear. It's fully air-conditioned and well-insulated for comfort and quiet. The kitchen has a large refrigerator, microwave, conduction oven, true induction cooktop, toaster, coffee maker, blender, pots, pans, dishes, utensils...and an electric grill for outdoor use on the beautifully tiled sidebar just outside your door. We provide potable water, detergents, bath essentials, all linens...if you need it and can't find it, just ask us!
This is our home. We bought an older place in 2004 and totally renovated it. Our intention was to retire (or, as they say here, "jubilarnos." Look it up in your Spanish dictionary!
The two apartments — the Tortuga and the Pelican — were added for family and friends. But somehow, when family and friends were not occupying them, we were persuaded to rent them out. Now we refer to ourselves as "the accidental innkeepers." And we love it! We meet wonderful people from interesting places. We still block out time for family and friends, but our renters often become friends as they come back time after time.

We have a "toy closet" with kayaks, beach furniture, toy boxes for the kids, kites, boogie boards, and more, especially for guests! And you can use the washer and dryer in the common side courtyard area.

OTHER THINGS
Printed materials in the apartment includes a local restaurant guide; maps of Old and New Kino showing shops, restaurants, ATMs, etc.; local telephone directory; suggested activities and resources; and information about the local Seri Indian population.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Kino Nuevo (New Kino), where we are located, is a beach community — relaxed, non-touristy — with small restaurants, a couple of bars, little stores for basics, and a fantastic beach! That beach is lines with mostly single-family homes and small hotels; we do not have high-rise condos, discos, or shopping malls. Be prepared to relax and enjoy.
The fishing village of Kino Viejo (Old Kino) is just a short drive, bus ride, or invigorating walk away. There you find more shops, restaurants, taco bars, and a pier where the local kids play and fishermen bring in their catch of the day. Night life in Kino Viejo means strolling the plaza, having tacos, pizza, or ice cream, and maybe enjoying the sound of musicians strolling the streets.
Don't speak Spanish? The locals are kind and helpful. They love it when you try, with a "buenas noches" or "buenos días," but they'll manage to make you welcome in any case.
HOW TO GET AROUND
Walking works for many. There are restaurants and stores nearby here in Kino Nuevo. Of course, if you have a car, that makes it easy; but it's not essential. Kino Viejo and Kino Nuevo are strung out along about seven miles of beautiful beach; and there is a bus that makes the run from one end to the other every hour from about 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. It also continues on to the nearby town of Miguel Alemán and then to Hermosillo. When we travel, we take that bus to and from the airport in Hermosillo; and we have guests who arrive on a plane, walk out to the street in front of the airport, catch the bus that goes right by on its way to Kino, and ask to be dropped off at our doorstep! Local rides cost only a few pesos; rides to/from Hermosillo are around $8.00.
